Adoption Worker Section

We would like to know what advice adoption workers can give us that will make the process easier. A worker recently suggested to me that I write a letter expaining a couple of things that aren't clear on my home study, and send that letter every time I send out the study. She also suggested that I write to the workers and tell them what I, my family, and my community have to offer the child about whom I am inquiring. This is great advice! I also submitted to a psychological evaluation because a worker in the past suggested that I get one in the wake of a disruption. This is especially valuable if you are not married. So, come on, workers! What advice can you offer us that might help to prevent many of the problems that so many of us have encountered in our quest to adopt children?

Did you grow up in the system? We'd like to hear from you.

We'd like to hear from people who have grown up in the child welfare system, whether they are teens who are still in the system and expecting to "age out" or adults who have already emancipated. We want to know what you think needs to be fixed in the system. We also want to know what you want prospective adoptive parents to know about life in "the system" and how you think adoption would change your life.

So, what's your problem?

I'd like to start this blog with an open forum where anyone can "air out" their feelings about any problem they are having in their effort to adopt children. With so many kids available, there ought to be someone for everyone. But, as many of us know all too well, it is so very difficult to make the connection. Hopefully, more and more workers will find time to read what people say here and learn what they need to change in order to help everyone - both us and the children.
